RANGERS WORK TOGETHER TO BEAT THE BLUES

GLANBROOK 3, DUNDAS 1

GLANBROOK (Oct. 13) — The Glanbrook Rangers rode a solid team effort, supported by rock-steady goaltending from Mitch Robinson, to earn their second consecutive victory, a 3-1 triumph over the previously unbeaten Dundas Blues.
“That was an overall effort, our hard work paid off,” said Rangers’ coach Kevin Miket. “We kept things real simple and stuck to our game plan which was to keep them to the outside and play with discipline in all three zones.”
A high-energy forecheck helped to keep the Blues penned in through the games early stages, and when the Rangers did waver and allow the Blues to generate some chances, Robinson was there to shut down the threat, not with spectacular, desperation saves, but with steadfast positioning and confident challenges to the Dundas shooters.
“Robbie settled things down, he got us whistles when we needed them, before things got out of hand,” said Miket.
At the opposite end, the Rangers didn’t have too many clear scoring opportunities, but they did exert consistent pressure on the Blues defence. More effectively, the Rangers were able to choke off the centre of the ice and keep the Blues from developing any sustained offensive rhythm.
It came down to which team would seize the opportunities when they arose and Rangers’ forward Sean Golebiowski was the first to accomplish that when he forced a turnover in the Dundas zone and lasered a shot just under the crossbar in the latter stages of the first period. Ryan Burke extended the Glanbrook lead to 2-0 with the only goal of the second period and the Rangers worked to smother any Blues’ attempts to rally.
Dundas managed to foil Robinson’s hopes for a shutout in the waning minutes of the third as J.D. McNeil connected on a power play, but the Rangers didn’t falter and sealed the hard-earned triumph on Tyler Daniels’ empty-net marker with 13 seconds remaining.
Miket said the Rangers were quietly confident, even when the Blues cut the margin to one goal.
“We were winning faceoffs all game, and when you start with the puck, everything becomes easier,” he said. “And when you work hard, you create your own breaks. ”
NOTES: Keeping a tight rein on McNeil was key for the Rangers. The Dundas forward has scored eight of the Blues’ 10 goals this season … Robinson made 31 saves and lowered his goals against average to 2.71 in four outings.
