GETTING BACK TO BUSINESS

GLANBROOK (Oct. 5) —  After far too long a wait, the Glanbrook Rangers will return to action tomorrow night as they host the Niagara Riverhawks in their first game on home ice in 18 months.   Glanbrook opened their 2021-22 campaign on Friday, Oct. 1 with a 4-1 loss to the Grimsby Peach Kings, who were the Rangers’ last opponents way back on March 11, 2020 when they notched a 4-2 win to even their Bloomfield Division Final series at 2-2,  just before hockey — and the world — went into lockdown.

The Rangers will be looking to re-ignite the fire as they pursue their championship dreams once again.  But, as with life in general, the experience will be a bit different.  Covid-19 protocols are in force at all recreational facilities in Hamilton, which means that attendees must provide  staff with a printed or digital copy of their proof of vaccination along with a photo ID when they arrive at the front door.   Arena capacity will be limited to 300 patrons and staff, so arrive early and prepared.    And, of course, masks must be worn at all times while in the building  and social distancing is encouraged.   The popular Rangers lounge will not be open for the time being.

Other changes include a shorter schedule (36 games instead of  42), and a realigned division with the Hespeler Shamrocks shifting over into the South Doherty Division.

But even with the new challenges, fans can expect the same drive and determination from all the Rangers’ players, staff and volunteers to bring the excitement of junior hockey back to the team’s devoted followers.  Thanks to everyone for their patience and co-operation.   Game time is 7:30 p.m., Glanbrook Arena.
